Mahveen Hussain
Medical Director
AseraCare Hospice Stockton, CA
Mahveen Hussain, M.D. has been a medical director with AseraCare
for three years. She is responsible for leading and directing
AseraCare’s hospice agency in Stockton, California. As medical
director, she feels “honored” to be part of a team that helps
people at what is probably the most difficult, yet often most
meaningful time in their lives. “We are lucky to live in a society
that values compassionate care for the dying,” says Dr.
Hussain.
Her goal is to ensure her team is providing the highest quality
of care and service to AseraCare’s patients and their families. “We
should do our best to anticipate the needs of our patients and
families, instead of waiting for a request, and we should always
respect and understand the different ways death and dying are
handled in the various cultures we serve,” she explains.
Currently, Dr. Hussain also serves as a staff physician at the
San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp, California. From 2003
through 2005 she was an associate physician in Internal Medicine at
Kaiser Permanente in Sacramento, California. Before that she worked
as a staff physician in Internal Medicine for the Bristol Park
Medical Group in Mission Viejo, California.
Dr. Hussain is board-certified in both Hospice and Palliative
Medicine and Internal Medicine. She is a member of the American
Association of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Dr. Hussain was a
speaker at Kaiser Permanente’s Regional and National Diversity
Conferences in 2004 and 2005; she was also selected as a peer
leader for Sacramento’s Women’s Health Leadership Program during
the same period. She has also been a physician volunteer with
Physicians for Human Rights in Boston.
Dr. Hussain received her undergraduate degree in biochemistry at
UCLA, and earned her medical degree at New York Medical College.
She performed her residency in Internal Medicine at Loma Linda
University Medical Center.
